Navajo Weaving Basics
Learn the basic techniques of Navajo weaving using traditional wool yarn. In the first weekend session students will make selvege cords, discuss design elements, warp the vertical Navajo loom, and begin weaving. During the following sessions, we will weave a small rug while exploring the design possibilities of the various tapestry techniques used in traditional Navajo weaving. It will be necessary for students to weave between classes; the looms are portable and may be taken home between sessions. Students who have previously studied Navajo weaving may explore more advanced techniques or continue working on their unfinished project. Materials fee $25 loom rental fee and/or $30 yarn, payable to the instructor. Following class, looms may be purchased from the instructor.
