Offhand Flourishing is an ornate, non-lettering calligraphic art form based on 19th Century pen techniques. The flourished designs are spontaneous ,meditative and created with very little pre-planning. Designs may vary from the historic such as scrolls, quills and ornamental cartouches to the contemporary floral designs. Heather will demonstrate the essential strokes of these versatile designs as well as coloring and embellishing techniques for added depth and interest.

Heather Victoria Held is a lettering artist living in St.George, Ontario. She was introduced to Offhand Flourishing by Master Penman Michael Sull and was later able to study extensively with him. She is a postal member of Brian Walker’s Spencerian Review, CLAS, The copperplate Special Interest Group, past president of the Hamilton Calligraphy Guild and faculty member of Odyssey 2010 Calligraphy Conference and Iampeth 2010 Calligraphy Conference. Her offhand flourishing work has been published in Romantic Homes, Pen World, Bound and Lettered, Somerset Studio, The Penman’s Journal, Scripsit, 1000 Handmade Cards, and Good Mail Day. She teaches guild workshops throughout North America. Visit Heather at her blog, www.inkflourishes.blogspot.com , or her website, www.heathervistoriaheld.com
