Michael Schmidt - paintings
June 2 - July 8, 2012
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 2; 5-7 PM

Commanding landscapes and oversized still life compositions from St. Paul oil painter Michael Schmidt, who renders his scenes with confident juxtaposed color, strong forms and uniquely observed detail and perspective. “My work explores the beauty and variety of everyday life,” he states. “Inspiration for my painting comes from the urban landscapes and the often-overlooked, mundane objects that surround us.” Michael’s work is included in private and corporate collections in the Twin Cites and throughout the United States, Canada and Great Britain.

Concurrent with this installation: American Baskets
The Grand Hand St. Paul will focus on sculptural fiber forms in this review of work from American artists who draw on a variety of traditions and personal experiences. With materials ranging from rattan and artist-harvested grasses to porcupine quills and electrical wire, these contemporary basket makers bring a modern sensibility to an ancient craft.
