Sample Night Live will celebrate it's 50th show Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at History Theatre in downtown St. Paul. A dozen arts organizations will offer ten-minute samples of upcoming and ongoing works. Sample Night Live offers two acts throughout the night: the first act starts at 7 p.m. and is G-rated and family friendly; act two is unrated and uncensored. Tickets for this special show – good for either or both acts – are 50 percent off and may be purchased online at SampleNightLive.com or by calling the box office at 651-788-5992.
The August show will be hosted by Greta Grosch, features Sample Night Live's house band The Smarts and scheduled performances from Tom Reed (theater), Kerns and the Hemispheres (acoustic music), Walton*Mahler CollaborAction (Hip Hop theater), Ellie and the Entire Swim Team (band), Megonia (band), Yes and Food (improv), Cory Wong (music), Jenn Schaal (stand-up comedy), Segue Productions' "Steel Kiss" (theater) and Rince na Chroi (Irish dance), plus a lobby art installation by Angela Kuyper. Now in its Fifth Season, Sample Night Live connects high-quality local arts organizations to new audiences with a fun, casual, rock-and-roll-style show the first Wednesday of each month. Named in Minnesota Monthly’s prestigious “Best of” issue, the magazine describes Sample Night Live as “a smorgasbord” of art “teasingly proffered in a single evening like theatrical channel surfing.” Since its inception in 2008, Sample Night Live has connected more than 400 artists and arts organizations with more than 6,000 new fans!
Sample Night Live’s season is sponsored by History Theatre and supported by The Saint Paul Cultural STAR Program, the F.R. Bigelow Foundation, The Saint Paul Foundation, VSA Minnesota, the Minnesota State Arts Board, Travelers, Padilla Speer Beardsley, Ecolab, and Western Bank. This activity is funded, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council from an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature.
