Elizabeth Erickson’s exhibition Planes of Light features a series of paintings that reference the seven states of consciousness as described by the Indian mystic and spiritual master Meher Baba (1894-1969). The multivalent, richly hued abstract paintings are pathways to an immersive, contemplative, and transcendent experience. Paired with seven original poems that Erickson has composed, the work conveys a deeply personal spiritual journey with universal implications.
A founding member of the Women's Art Registry of Minnesota (WARM), Erickson has worked as a painter, poet, and educator since 1970. She has received grants from the Bush, Ragdale, and Mellon foundations and the Minnesota State Arts Board. Erickson began teaching in the fine arts department at MCAD in 1983 and continues to co-direct the Women's Art Institute, which she founded in 1999.
