Minn., MN—Join artist, writer, and curator Phong Bui in a discussion about the success of the monthly journal The Brooklyn Rail and the possibility of launching in our region a similar type of journal offering critical perspectives on the arts, politics, and culture.

About the Brooklyn Rail
The Brooklyn Rail, which operates as a nonprofit organization, includes local reporting, art criticism, fiction, poetry, as well as coverage of music, dance, film and theater. In addition, theRail presents art exhibitions, panel discussions, reading series and film screenings that reflect the complexity and inventiveness of the area’s artistic and cultural landscape. In 2004, the Railreceived several awards from the Independent Press Association-NY, and in 2002 and 2003, received the Utne Independent Press Award for Best Local/Regional Coverage in North America.

About Phong Bui
Bui is the co-founder, editor and publisher of The Brooklyn Rail and the publishing press The Brookyn Rail Editions, as well as the host/producer of Off the Rail on (AIR) Art International Radio. He is a board member of The Brooklyn Rail, The Miami Rail, The Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, and International Association of Art Critics United States Section (AICA/USA). He has taught and lectured extensively at universities and art schools around the country and is currently teaching in the graduate programs at School of Visual Arts and Yale University School of Art. Bui served as a curatorial advisor at PS1 Contemporary Art Center / Museum of Modern Art from 2007-2010.

As a visual artist, Bui has won the Award in Art from The Pollock/Krasner Foundation (1994), the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Eric Isenbeurger Annual Prize for Installation from the National Academy Museum (2003), among others.

Bui is a visiting critic for the recipients of the 2012/13 McKnight Artist Fellowships for Visual Artists. In addition to conducting studio visits with the four McKnight Visual Arts fellows, Bui will be conducting interviews and drawing their portraits as part of an online publication to be released in conjunction with their exhibition at MCAD Gallery in June 2013.
