Paintings & Proverbs explores the inheritance of cultural wisdom and identity in an exhibition of large, color-driven portraits of friends, colleagues, neighbors, along with elders who have settled in Minneapolis from e. Africa. These portraits are made from a combination of live sittings and photographs of each individual, some with the assistance of interpreters. Many of the proverbs were contributed by e. African elders - in Somali and Oromo, defending their old-world wisdom in their native languages.

This exhibition has no specific opening, as is it's in the storefront window only. The gallery will not be open at this time. Susan Hensel (window) Gallery, from May 7 through June 24 ~ 3441 Cedar Ave So, Minneapolis 55407

Thanks to the many collaborators and teachers in our e. African community~!
