“Crocus Hill Ghost Story” was created by composer/performer Julie Johnson; fiction writer Cheri Johnson; the St. Paul new music ensemble Zeitgeist (Heather Barringer, Pat O'Keefe, Patti Cudd, and Nicola Melville); filmmaker D.J. Mendel; and sound designer Eric Gonzalez. The collaborative team premiered the show in fall 2017 with six performances at Zeitgeist's Studio Z. In fall 2018, they’re re-mounting the show with actor/director KrisAnne Weiss as part of Zeitgeist’s Halloween Festival (October 25-28), alongside new works commissioned by Zeitgeist from Daniel Nass, Dameun Strange, and Doug Opel.
Based on Cheri Johnson’s short story “Crocus Hill,” this performance project combines original prose, music, and film to tell an unsettling tale set in a house in St. Paul. The show has been funded by grants from the Knight Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, a City of St. Paul STAR grant, the Lowertown Future Fund, and Zeitgeist's donors.
“Crocus Hill Ghost Story” will be performed twice (Saturday, October 27 at 8 pm and Sunday, October 28 at 7 pm) in the 2018 festival, which will also feature storytelling by Loren Niemi, Debra Ting, and Laura Packer, as well as performances by Benjamin Cold, RenegadeEnsemble, Queen Drea, Mike Olson, and Eric Gonzalez. The full schedule can be found at http://www.zeitgeistnewmusic.org/zeitgeist-halloween-festival-2018.html. All shows will take place at Zeitgeist’s Studio Z (275 East Fourth Street, Suite 200, Saint Paul, MN, 55101, (651) 755-1600). Tickets for individual shows are $15 / $10 students & seniors, or $40 for a festival pass.
