Join the American Swedish Institute for the opening night preview party for CraftBOWL, a new multi-part exhibition of work by three Swedish master craftspeople that launches the American Swedish Institute's 2018 The Handmade, a year-long exploration of the handmade form. CraftBOWL examines vessel design through the work and careers of three acclaimed artists: Jögge Sundqvist who works with wood, Ingegerd Råman in ceramics/glass and Bertil Vallien in glass. CraftBOWL continues on view January 20 - April 8, 2018.
At First Look, experience Jögge Sundqvist in a "Rhythm & Slöjd" performance where "wood, sweat and woodchips" mix with rock n' roll, meet Maja Heuer of Sweden's The Glass Factory, listen to local musician Chris Koza, try some hands-on activities, watch demos from FOCI- Minnesota Center for Glass Art, Northern Clay Center and ASI's spoon carvers, and browse a pop-up library from the American Craft Council. CraftBOWL also includes 101 Bowls, an eclectic display of creativity from organizations including American Craft Council, Minnesota Museum of American Art and the Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum, and Bowls for Open Arms, a non-profit benefit exhibition.
