The Works of Jill Whitney-Birk & T. Young (spring/summer)
Select works of mixed media, collage artist Jill Whitney-Birk & abstract painter T. Young will be shown in a 2-person show opening Friday, May 18, 5 pm. This shows theme explores and celebrates all things remnant.
Jill’s work explores layers of memory/experience and focuses on women & their traditional vs. non-traditional roles, power & vulnerability. With a strong sense of nostalgia, Jill seeks to bring the viewer into the work through layers, hidden words, meanings & humor. Creating a visual reference that will let the imagination wander, think, relate to, or reconstruct a personal connection with a place, time or moment.
T. Young’s paintings are all done with pieces of left-overs from other projects, packing materials, papers, memories, experiences, left-over words & phrases, and remnants of conversations, piecing together abstract paintings from small to large that detail and tell a story – or just a remnant of a story.
1. a remaining, usually small part, quantity, number, or the like.
2. a fragment
3. a small, unsold or unused piece of cloth, lace, etc.
4. a trace; vestige: remnants of a former greatness.
5. remaining; leftover.
