A 200,000 francs pricetag. The real cost: Decades-long friendships. This is the world of Yasmina Reza’s Art. The story revolves around three friends who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when one of them buys an expensive piece of abstract art. The play asks the question “What is art?” but this dramatic comedy is as much about friendship as it is about art. Art is so powerful because there is something with which everyone in the audience can relate. The winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play and winner of the 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy, Newsweek called it "…a nonstop cross-fire of crackling language, serious issues of life and art expressed in outbursts that sound like Don Rickles with a degree from the Sorbonne…”
Runs Friday, May 17th through Sunday, June 9th with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:00pm.
Special discounted performance on Wednesday, June 5th at 7:30pm.
Talk Back with cast and crew after the performance on Sunday, May 19th.
Sign Language Interpreted performance on Friday, June 7th at 7:30pm.
Audio Description performance on Friday, May 31st at 7:30pm.
On The Town

A classic American musical comedy, On the Town is one of Broadway’s most energetic and inventive musicals. Three sailors come to New York City on a whirlwind, one day leave, to seek adventures, embrace life and find a girl! Along the way they knock down a reconstructed dinosaur, visit Coney Island and have fun at some lively night clubs. Set against the backdrop of WWII and the sailors’ own uncertain futures, On the Town is an exuberant and poignant comedy. On the Town was Leonard Bernstein's first Broadway score. Experience this show the way it was meant to be: with full orchestration from BCT’s live orchestra, large, energetic dance sequences and amusingly innovative sets. Directed by Wendy Lehr.
From Space to Place

Defined by human activities, places are ever-changing, ever-decaying, and always being reborn, often through collective action and collaboration. From Space to Place features projects from local, national and international artists and designers that reexamine place and one's relationship to it. The projects are a result of collaborative and individual efforts to interpret and investigate the phenomena of place and placemaking—the transformation of a space into that which has a distinct identity.Featuring CookKIT from 7pm-10pm outside RegisParallel Hypothetical from 7pm-10pm at Rapson HallIdentity of the Moment, a live performance by Anna Carlson & Joey Crane at 8pm at the Katherine E. Nash GalleryArtists and Designers in the Exhibition:Susan Armington, Nicholaus Arnold, Bad News from Houston, Andrew Bergmann, Patrick Beseda, Susannah Bielak, Anna Carlson, Juan William Chávez, Tuia Cherici, Joey Crane, Federico Garcia Lammers, Murat Germen, Brita Hauser, Erin Garnaas-Holmes, Katie Hargrave, Lauren Herzak-Bauman, John Kallen, Rebecca Kallen, Caroline Kent, Sam Krahn, Kendra Larson, James Lynch, Minneapolis Art on Wheels, Sara Nichol, TJ Proechel, Angela Olson, Tyler Rush, Andrew Salveson, Nick Satinover, Emily Stover, Andy Sturdevant, The Think Tank that has yet to be named, Sergio Vucci, Aaron Westre and Ryan Wurst.Related EventsCookKIT May 30, 7:00 - 10:00 pmRegis Center for Art Join us for a series of short outdoor events involving CookKIT—a mobile kitchen designed by Emily Stover, that serves as a platform for food-based community programming. Three different artist groups will use CookKIT to explore how cooking can be a performance, tell a story, and act as a memory-building vehicle.Parallel Hypothetical with MAW, Angela Olson and Aaron Westre May 30, 7:00 - 10:00 pmRapson Hall, Courtyard, 89 Church Street SE, MplsJoin us for a mirror exhibition of From Space to Place, but in the virtual realm. This digitally duplicated exhibition raises questions about the value of art and the gallery/museum experience. Come explore how experiencing art through simulation can change the nature of how we see.Structures of Support Workshop with Think Tank June 1, 12:00 - 2:00 pmRegis Center for ArtDevelop a clearer understanding of how our support structures are created and maintained and how we might then work to build more resilient and robust support structures in the future. "Desire lines" are the informal paths created by foot traffic across public spaces not initially intended for foot traffic. Any time you see a dirt path across a patch of grass or up a hill between two sidewalks, or footprints in the snow leading from one place to another, that's a desire line. Looking at traditional desire lines, as well as expanding the idea beyond footpaths, we'll see how people create their own spaces, make shortcuts, defy authority, and carve out new path systems. Panelists include: Ursula Lang, Ph.D. candidate in Geography at the University of Minnesota, Ross Elfline, Assistant Professor of Art History at Carleton College and Neeraj Mehta, director of community-based research at Center for Urban and Regional Affairs. Susannah Bielak, artist, writer, cultural and content producer, will moderate the panel.Reverse Scavenger Hunt with Erin Garnaas-HolmesJune 12, 6:00pmLeaves from Regis Center for ArtThe goal of the Reverse Scavenger Hunt is to reverse-collect things from the world around you. Instead of acquiring or consuming objects and experiences and bringing them back to home base, you create, cause, disperse and share them with your environment. You will journey with a team via bicycle into the city and combine items and interactions with places/people from a given list, while infusing life into your surroundings! A bicycle and camera are recommended for this event.
Call for Applications 2013

Session 2013-2015In 1985, the City of Paris gave Pontus Hulten the task of creating a graduate school for research in contemporary art. Its antecendents were to be the Weimer Bauhaus School and Black Mountain College in the U.S., and it was meant to function as an alternative to Paris's École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 2012, the Biennale de Paris, with its history, experiences and specificities, decided to open a new Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques (IHEAP), according to its own operating mode which may consist in reactivating abandoned institutions. The Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques (IHEAP) offers participants a course of study where they can free themselves from the inherited art history of the 20th century, by investigating crucial issues of art in the 21st century, an ongoing history in which the participants will eventually take part.IHEAP is open to all those who have an interest in singular and extreme practices which currently and sporadically appear in the art world and elsewhere. IHEAP is for those who want to change their artistic practice or professional activity, for those who after several years of art school want to break free of alienated learning, who expect more from a school than a framework for artistic production, for those who reject art as it is commonly practiced, and finally for those who wish to work on essential issues in intimate and experimental conditions. The course of study is completed in two years. The first year is composed of sessions work that mix practice and theorie. The second year is dedicated to the creation of an activity report. Its purpose is to demonstrate the development of the participant's research. The development of this document will be carefully followed by IHEAP's staff.IHEAP does not discriminate by age. No specific diploma is required to apply.Study at Iheap is equivalent to a post-graduate degree. The application fee is 75 euros. Tuition is 2800 euros for two years studies. The two steps of the entrance examination at IHEAP:1. Pre-admissionCandidates must send complete form application online to IHEAP before May 30, 2013 and provide a text limited to 10 000 characters, explaining why they want to study at IHEAP. In place of the text they can attach a recording of 10 minutes maximum (MP3, 8Mo maximum). Candidates’ applications will be examined by a jury. After the candidates’s application have been examined by a jury, applicants will be advised of results by e-mail.2. AdmissionPre-admitted candidates will be individually interviewed by the selection panel, on either June 20 and 28, 2013. Pre-admitted candidates will be invited to take the entrance exam, which consists in an interview with a selection panel. The candidate must present his or her work process to a jury that will interview him or her regarding work, interests and reasons for attending the Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques (IHEAP). Admissions are made based on quality of motivation and limitation of available places. Incomplete application folders will not be considered. The submission of an application is an online process, according to a simplified procedure via a registration form: http://iheap.fr/en/candidatureDeadline for the submission of applications: May 30, 2013Pre-admission results: June 5, 2013Interview with the admissions panel: June 20 – 28, 2013Results of the admissions: July 6, 2013Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques (Iheap)SecrétariatTél. : +33 (0)1 4534 3004Email : secretariat@iheap.frhttp://iheap.fr
