White Cactus Documentary

In December 1991, my father, Jairo Enrique Arzayus, was arrested in Trenton, NJ, for the possession of twelve million dollars worth of cocaine. A judge called him a kingpin of the Cali Cartel, a major Colombian criminal organization that distributed cocaine all along the Eastern Seaboard. He was given a sentence of 20 years to life in federal prison. That night changed both of our lives and our family forever. A part of me was incredulous. “My dad was the head of the Cali Cartel,” I’d often repeat to myself. It was like finding out that your dad was Jessie James. Instantly, there was a constant media frenzy assaulting our daily lives. We were famous, but also poor once again. The FBI seized the restaurant, our two houses, and five cars.

[i]White Cactus[/i] is a documentary exploring a multitude of complex issues that arose from our abnormal family life and my father’s arrest.

This documentary has been shot in three primary locations – Minneapolis, New Jersey, and Colombia. It integrates my memories from the past with my new discoveries and experiences, illustrating the ever-shifting interplay between the lies and the reality of what actually occurred during my childhood.

Mark your calendars: Arts by the River – Fine Art & Music Festival – June 8 & 9, 2013! [b]Entry deadline[/b]:Postmarked by April 1, 2013. Arts by the River in Mankato is an art and music festival dedicated to bringing fine arts to the forefront of the Southern Minnesota region. Located in the beautiful and recently completed Riverfront Park, Arts by the River will bring together the community with the opportunity to view and purchase a wide variety of fine arts, experience artist demonstrations, listen to live music performances in the Vetter Stone Amphitheatre and enjoy fabulous food and drink vendors. There will also be an area for children’s activities to keep the whole family entertained. Arts by the River is a collaborative festival of Twin Rivers Council for the Arts, KMSU, the Verizon Wireless Center and the City of Mankato. [b]Application[/b]:All artists must submit a completed and signed application with Release and Waiver, accompanied by a $20.00 payment for the non-refundable jury fee. Make checks payable to Twin Rivers Council for the Arts. [b]Booth fe[/b]e:$100 for 10' x 10' space. Any submitted booth fees will be returned if your application is not accepted. [b]Tent Rental Fee[/b]:Arts by the River has a limited supply of 10’ x 10’ white canopy tents available for a $40 rental fee. They will be provided by request in the order of applications received and artists will be notified with their jury results. If supplies run out, those who do not receive tents will receive a fee refund. Tents must be requested with the application; they will not be available the day of the event. [b]Images[/b]:All artists must include four (4) photos or digital images (no slides) representative of the work to be exhibited. It is preferred that one image should be of their display booth completely set-up. (Each photo/image must be labeled with the artist’s name and medium and must be representative of the work that will be displayed). All photos/images will be retained by Arts by the River. CD identified: artist’s full name, image identification numbers, medium

Image attachments: unaltered, 300 dpi jpg or pdf (image size no larger than 3” x 5”)
