Dear Regional Artist: The Park Rapids Downtown Business Association (PRDBA) is planning a juried Art Fair in conjunction with our 3rd Annual Bite of Park Rapids Sunday, July 14. The Bite of Park Rapids has proven to be a successful event drawing hundreds of visitors to Downtown Park Rapids to try tempting treats prepared by our local restaurants, live music, a beer garden, inflatable park, face painting, caricatures and food races. The Park Rapids Downtown Business Association is committed to growing this event and to support it with extensive marketing and advertising. The Park Rapids area draws thousands of summer visitors and seasonal residents who enjoy our lakes and rich cultural traditions every year. Located 20 miles from Itasca State Park, the community is the one most closely associated with the crown jewel of Minnesota’s state parks. CALL FOR ARTISTS: Crossings is organizing an August 2013 exhibit "Stolen Goods" Deadline to enter: Friday, July 19, 5pm or until full Artwork delivery deadline: Tuesday, July 30, 5pm False. Forgery. Fake. Fudged. Liar, liar pants on fire. Let’s face it, society as we know it would crumble without little white (and not-so-little) lies. And a little faking not only makes life a little easier (and maybe more fun), but the best lies reveal the deepest truths. Crossings invites you to start with an artwork by an Old Master, then put your own twist on it in order to reveal your true identity as an artist. We are not looking for actual forgeries(!) or student copies, but pieces that reinterpret or take liberties with the original. OVERVIEW “Stolen Goods” is a non-juried group show which will be on display from Thurs., Aug. 1 through Sat., Aug. 31, 2013. Artists will be accepted on a first-come basis until the show is full or up to July 19. [b]Submission Deadline: August 15 [/b][b][i]Geometry in Nature[/i][/b] [b]October 10 - November 30, 2013[/b] Silverwood Park invites artists who are at least 18 years old and reside primarily in the Midwest to submit work to be considered for the upcoming juried exhibition [i]Geometry in Nature[/i] at Silverwood Park. A $300 award will be given to one artist as chosen by Juror Liz Miler. [b]Description of Exhibition[/b] The word [i]geometry[/i] is Greek for [i]geos[/i] meaning earth and [i]metron[/i] meaning measure. Since its conception, geometry helps us understand and explain the natural world. When shapes, numbers and patterns repeat themselves, intricate and beautiful forms can result. The spiral of a snail’s shell, the veins on a leaf, and the scales of a pinecone are among a vast number of natural examples that can be explained mathematically. We ask you as artists to submit pieces that highlight the relationship between geometric principles and the natural world. Work can be 2-D and 3-D, representational or abstract. Framed worked should not measure more than 40 inches at greatest width or 48 inches at greatest length. 3-D work must fit on a 15 x 15 inch pedestal or be freestanding. Tasteful, neutral walls make artwork pop. Warm spot lighting with adjustable brightness directs their gaze. Pedestals and movable free-standing walls available at no additional cost. The space may be rented for one or more months for as little as $400 per month. We take no commission -- artists receive 100% of sales (minus a 4% deduction if a purchase is made with our credit/debit card processor). You may submit a proposal as an individual or group.
