I am a student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I am majoring in Drawing and Painting, but I am also interested in collage, sculpture, film, and printmaking. In the past my favorite medium to work in was charcoal and graphite. These materials really lent themselves to drawing my favorite subject, the figure. Coming to MCAD was great because it gives you access to live models. From there I started to want to abstract the figure, especially in very subtle ways to invoke an uncanny feeling. Lately these disfigurements have started to come off the page, in the form of masks. I see masks as way to abstract my own body rather than a body on paper. They started small, and became larger and larger, until they covered most of the body. This has also rekindled a childhood love of paper mache, and interest in the Heart of Beast Puppet Theatre. I also have a passion for working with children and creating art along with them. With that in mind I try to make my art humorous and interactive, and not too bogged with heavy concepts. I think that creating, understanding, and enjoying art should be accessible to kids of all ages, from 0 to 100.
