  • John Marks updated the Artwork Circadia
For Circadia, I contributed video projections and synthesizer to a new compostion and performance by Crystal Myslajek (composer/performer) with Liz Draper and Chris Hepola (performers) commissioned for the Cedar Cultural Center's 416 Club in 2015. The music was released on LP by Waterwing Records from Portland Oregon in 2016.
  • John Marks updated the Artwork Suncatcher
Suncatcher is a triptych Super 8 to video work that was created for a solo exhibition at Roman Susan Gallery (Chicago). The work has also screened at Cellular Cinema (MN), and Cinema Project (Portland, OR).
  • John Marks updated the Artwork City 3
City 3, by Sam Hoolihan and John Marks, is a work of expanded cinema that incorporates a triptych of original, artist-processed 16mm films along with an original live mixed and processed cassette tape loop sound collage. City 3 is an improvised, analog, expanded cinema performance of roughly 20 minutes in duration. It has screened at Mono No Aware (NYC), Northern Spark (MN), Milwaukee Underground Film Festival (WI)
  • John Marks updated the Artwork Reflectors
Reflectors is a collaboration between Sam Hoolihan, John Marks, and Crystal Myslajek. The work creates a resonant synthesis of vertically structured film and sound. The images are composed of double and triple exposed Tri X and Ektachrome 16mm film stocks, by layering images on top of one another multiple contexts resolve within single frames. The sounds, in response to the film, are constructed of live-looped vocal and keyboard passages that are supported and processed by modular synthesizer bu…
  • John Marks updated the Artwork Peripheries
Peripheries is a work for expanded cinema that takes notice of the sights and sounds located at the fringes of our awareness where layers of latent experience accumulate and dissipate. Incorporating dual 16mm projections and live sound performance, Peripheries utilizes camera motion and multiple exposures onto expired and hand processed film stocks to create visually disorienting compositions. Sonically dense vocal loops and synthesizer drones give way to spacious piano passages and minimalist e…
