Leyya Mona Tawil (1975) is a Syrian-Palestinian-American engaged in the world as such. Tawil is the director of DANCE ELIXIR, through which she pursues interdisciplinary work with international and local reach. She is director of Oakland’s Temescal Arts Center, a space dedicated to community and experimental arts.
Tawil’s work has been presented in 16 countries, and extensively in Detroit and NYC. In 2015, she worked with MN-based organization MIZNA in offering an interdisciplinary performance-workshop at Bedlam-Lowerton tited "Reclaiming the Narrative: Arab Experimentalism."
Presentation highlights include New York Live Arts, After the Last Sky Festival (Berlin), Pivot Art + Culture (Seattle), MOCAD (Detroit), RhizomeDC (DC), Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, TransDance15 (Cairo), and Bimhuis (Amsterdam).
