Founder of Free Range Music Cooperative, Kar was co-director of 2015’s CULTURE hip hop series. His production and vocals drive the accompanying album CULTURE Hip Hop Vol. I, which features many of the Twin Cities’ best rappers.
Born in west Africa, raised in south Minneapolis, Kar is a multi-instrumentalist who has been making music for over a decade, working in soul, jazz, rap, metal, folk and blues with a long list of Minnesota recording artists.
Previously a percussionist in the award winning Xavier Marquis(band), in 2011 Marcus started his philanthropic work by establishing Free Range Music Cooperative, an emerging network of professional musicians, organizers and promoters. The Cooperative’s mission is “to help maintain a flourishing and productive art community. Marcus currently serves as the Director of Free Range Music Cooperative. He has relied on his experiences as a young adult serving 8 years in the U.S. Navy, earning an honorable discharge.
