Nicholas Knutson (b. 1986) is a visual artist focusing on video and sculptural based works, and since graduating from the College of Visual Arts (BFA 2009) he has continued to merge the multiple forms of media that are present in music, fine art and popular culture. His work is concentrated on a juxtaposition of culture, consumerism, history and ritual doused in satire. Knutson has shown works locally in Duluth, Mankato and the Twin Cities and globally in Japan, Belgium, and the Netherlands. He has artistically contributed to Minneapolis-based bicycle producer, Surly Bikes, where he created video works to define the obscure and comical brand image. In 2014, Knutson teamed up with a competitive eating team to document their extreme endeavors, with the visual goal of exploring the grotesque process. The competitors in the project went on to compete locally against international competitive eater, Takeru Kobayashi. He currently lives with his wife, Drue in Minneapolis, MN where he was born and plans to continue his artistic endeavors.
