The Shoebox Gallery is pleased to announce Bill Colburn's sited paint work. Mr. Colburn abstracts the careful viewing of everyday sites from his home windows resulting in fantastic textures, abstractions and scale shifts. He will apply this technique to the Shoebox Gallery and its environs. The viewer need be prepared to be mind altered rounding its o-so-familiar corner to be drawn into a tidepool of colors a la Bonnard, late Monet and high Rothko. These colors will wash away the effects of the grime that inspired them. Bill Colburn Avenue Street May15- July 4th, 2009

GALLERY HOURS= 24-7-365 The Gallery is always open for viewing as it is a small storefront window (8'x8'x2') just to the right of 2948 Chicago Av S, part of the Roberts Shoes store (see schema in Information for exact dimensions).
WHAT WE LIKE TO SEE: Work that is cognizant or sensitive to the rough, tumble, smooth and glossy of the area. Artists may consider using the entire building and other display windows in Roberts when proposing marriage of ideas and place. Any media including dance and performance is welcome. ACCEPTED WORK MUST BE READY TO HANG.
CAVEAT: As the Gallery is a window in a shoestore, we cannot offer insurance, shipping nor climate control. The sun will beat down and it will be a little colder or hotter than the store's interior. Automatic awnings protect the window, but not completely. Let your art withstand these conditions when considering submitting.
GO DEEP: The Gallery has existed for the past 3.5 years and has been host to many provocative art shows as well as the Shoebox Biennial and various performance festivals. Please see details elsewhere herein.
EXCUSE ME WHILE I CLEAR MY THROAT: Three artists who’ve shown at the Shoebox and Sean Smuda Studio in 2004: Alexa Horchowski, Jenny Schmid and Emily Johnson, received Bush Fellowships.
