Zenon Dance Company and School’s mission is to sustain an artistically excellent, professional dance company in the Twin Cities by commissioning the works of emerging and locally, nationally, and internationally recognized modern and jazz choreographers, and to present this work to diverse communities, including those with disabilities. Zenon accomplishes this through performance, education, and outreach. Zenon’s dance school provides high quality dance instruction for avocational and professional dancers within a diverse curriculum.
Since its first performance in 1983, Zenon Dance Company has grown to be one of the nation's premiere repertory dance companies. It is one of only a few companies in the United States to commission and perform both modern and jazz works created by emerging Twin Cities choreographers as well as internationally renowned masters. Zenon's unique, eclectic repertory has allowed it to reach a broad range of audiences - from dedicated Twin Cities' dance enthusiasts to at-risk youth in Minneapolis to elder care residents in Greater Minnesota. The company has built a loyal audience base and has received accolades for its kinetic, high-energy performances, technical acuity, and generous personality.
Zenon is not only unique in its artistic excellence as both a modern and jazz dance company, but also in its unparalleled distinction as a company of trained "teaching artists." The company is a pioneer in the field of dance education and has developed solid residency curriculum that incorporates the programs of the hosting school or organization with the technique and artistry of dance. Zenon is strongly committed to working with diverse populations including the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, and are which Zenon remains peerless.
"Zenon's commitment and dedication to working with diverse public school students is apparent in their professional approach to teaching dance, as well as by the skilled personal manner in which they interact with students...The success of the Zenon Dance Residency is a tribute to the artistry of the Zenon dancers and their mission to spread the joy of dance."
- 9th Grade Teachers, Southwest High School
