Biography
I'm utter rubbish at describing myself, so I sincerely apologize if this ends up being a rambling mess.
To make a very long life story short? I'm a 31-year-old artist from Minneapolis who also works as a mentor to K-4th grade youth in the ISD #271. When I'm not doing either of those things, I am a disability rights advocate who blogs and kvetches about whatever catches my interests.
I was born with a rare genetic disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, of the Hypermobility type, otherwise known as hEDS. I also have an ASD diagnosis. If neither of those were challenging enough on their own, I was also the survivor of a 2015 break-in at my home that left me nearly murdered and definitely traumatized with overt PTSD. Which is what took my passive love the the arts back into the spotlight.
I work predominately in the visual field, in 2D pen and ink portraiture, but I'm not limited to that. I'd like to do some comic work some day. Maybe. We'll see. I also create digitally with a Wacom tablet and Photoshop, or other digital programs.
I work out of the Interact Center for Visual and Performing Arts three days a week, but also create on my own time. Sammy Plenskie is a pseudonym; most of my work that comes out of Interact is signed with my brith name, which I'm less likely to use for work created on my own time.
If you would like to contact me about commissions or any other work, please do! I'm always open!
