Rob was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1970. He’s travelled the U.S. extensively and visited Europe several times, has an intense curiosity about all the world’s religions, biochemistry, biocentrism, quantum theory, organic fractals and metaphysics. He subscribes to the notion that the best that a school can provide is teaching the student how to teach themselves.
Through poetry as a young adult, Rob’s voice came almost exclusively out of pain. Having lost a sister and his mother to cancer before 18, expressing beauty was just a counterpoint to the misery, bitterness, rage, and disappointment he had felt. Through living he’s come to recognize that hardship is often countered by life’s beauty and profundity. He just needed to look. It wasn’t until he was 40 that he knew what he expected of himself, what he wanted out of his life and what he expected of his art. After applying himself for 8 years to the technical necessities of being a painter, he is ready to cultivate that heartfelt hopefulness; that profound feeling of wonder; that sublime peace born of the natural world. To bring that preternatural spirit here and give it mass, energy, and form; a vehicle in the corporeal world we’ve found ourselves in.
