Laura L. Hansen
Laura L. Hansen holds a B.A. Degree from Concordia College
in Moorhead, MN. Laura spent twelve years in Business
Administration before opening her bookstore in 1992. Laura is
a two-time recipient of a Five Wings Arts Council Grant.
Laura L. Hansen lives and works in Central Minnesota along the Mississippi River which is her muse. Laura has had articles and poetry published in Lake Country Journal Magazine, Minnesota Moments Magazine, Aqueous Magazine, The Talking Stick Literary Journal, Ottertail Review, ArtWord Quarterly and Sidewalks, Laura also has work included in the books, The Heart of All That Is, Fog and Woodsmoke , County Lines, and 20X20. Laura has self-published two poetry chapbooks, Diving the Drop-off and Why I Keep Rabbits which was nominated for the Midwest Booksellers Award in poetry. Laura is a member of Great River Writers and The League of Minnesota Poets, and is on the Board of the Five Wings Arts Council. She was also the Poetry Judge for the 2014 Brainerd Writers Alliance Annual Writing Contest. Laura is available for poetry readings and mentoring.
Laura L. Hansen has mentored with poets Tom McKeown and Kathryn Kysar and attended workshops with Naomi Shihab Nye, Mark Wunderlich, Linda Back McKay, LuAnn Muhm, and Juliet Patterson among others.
Laura has been published in Lake County Journal, Minnesota Moments, and Aqueous magazines, The Talking Stick, Ottertail Review, Sidewalks, ArtWord Quarterly, North Coast Review, Riverwalk, and realgoodwords literary journals as well as Bookselling This Week. She has reviewed books for BookSense, IndieNext, and Lake Country Journal.
Her poems have appeared in The Fargo ArtForum and the Morrison County Record and have been recorded for Lakeland Public Television and Northern Community Radio's The Beat. Laura's poem Munitions was also selected for the online magazine On the Commons (UncommonWords).
Laura has poems included in several anthologies including Fog and Woodsmoke (Lost Hills Books), The Heart of All That Is (Holy Cow Press), County Lines, and 20X20.
Laura has won numerous awards for her writing including First and Thrid Place in the League of Minnesota Poets Grand Prize Category, People's Choice and 3rd Place Awards at Poetry On the Wall sponsored by The Crossing Arts Alliance. her chapbook, why I Keep Rabbits, was nominated for the Midwest Booksellers Association Booksellers Choice Award for Poetry.
Laura was recently selected to serve as the Poetry Judge for The Brainerd Writers Alliance 2014 Fall Contest and for the Talking Stick 2015 Contest sponsored by The Jackpine Writers Bloc.
Laura is the founder of The Great River Writers, a group that meets monthly at the Carnegie Library in Little Falls, MN. She has close ties to The Heartland Poets and is a member of L.O.M.P. She has served on the board of Great River Arts Association, the Steering Committee for the Morrison County Relay for Life and is currently on the Board of the Five Wings Arts Council. Laura owned and operated Bookin' It, an independent booksotre in Little Falls, MN, for over twenty years recommending books and promoting and sponsoring author-centered events and was awarded the Minnesota Council for Quality Service Award.

Ms. Hansen has done poetry readings, presentations. amd mini-workshops at several Public Libraries around Central Minnesota and collaborated with poet Penny Swann on a highly successful poetry presentation at The Headwaters Center for Lifelong Learning in Park Rapids.
Laura graduated Summa Cum Laude from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1979 with degrees in Business Adminsitration and Spanish. She lives on the Mississippi River where she listens and learns from the water, the trees, the herons and the mink.
