Activity

  • People were invited to bring an article of clothing that needed repair for a mending workshop. All materials were provided, including artist-designed patches. The script on the tablecloth reads "I invite you to repair your own clothing. Reassess the symbols with which you identify, contemplate the relationship between this garment and your body, and consider the hands that first made it."
  • Sewing Circle is an artist-operated, treadle-powered sewing machine integrated into a folding, circular table that seats six people (including the artist). This tool creates opportunities for participants to connect to their own creativity through hands-on fiber art activities, while also connecting to each other through conversation.   • Urban/Environment is a photographic project that explores urban ecology along Chicago Avenue, focusing on natural beauty in unexpected places, the fragility of life, and the tension between man-made structures and living organisms. Thirty-seven signs combining photographs and descriptive text are installed in public spaces, mimicking the mannerisms of state park signage.
