  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Minnesota Inherited
This collection of cards is a celebration of Minnesota culture and history. Each card partners a photograph that captures a personal memory of a rural Minnesotan with a fact about Minnesota. These cards are currently on sale throughout Minnesota or by contacting the artist. To contribute an image and add your Minnesota memory to the collection, please send an email to the artist.
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Significant Curtain
As we go through life, we form very special attachments to spacific places. Our memories and emotions will always be tied to these locations. This project recognizes the importance of these places as remembered by the person connected to them. This curtain is an opportunity for a viewer to physically enter into a significant environment of the artist. A single line of text around the exterior explains its emotional importance. It provides an escape from the gallery; similar to the artist's relat…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Signicant Boxes
This series of 16 boxes was an examination into the personal attachments formed to particular locations. Various people were selected to share their experiences and allow their memories to be captured and presented for display. Viewing each scene through the lens, provides the viewer with a glimpse into that personal and emotional moment. The pull at the bottom of the box gives the viewer the opportunity to understand and share in the significance of each location. They are left with their own a…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Symbiotic
The observation of art is an active and complicated exchange between viewer and object. Without explanation, no one can propose to know what the affect the artwork has on the viewer or how the viewer affects the work. This piece is a physical representation of that delicate interplay. 37 eight-foot long strips of flowing chiffon are suspended from a simple four foot square grid. Four synchronized projectors from different angles caste images onto this luminous surface. When viewers begin to appr…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Reclamation
With digital photography becoming more and more prominent, many fear that the photograph is losing its objective value. If Barthes is correct and images are a visual validation of our memories, then, as a society, we are now selling our family histories and memories to the highest bidder (all of these images were purchased on ebay). Reclamation is an opportunity for participants to claim these images and give them a value higher than monetary once again. At the same time, through the use of a Po…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork In Memory Of...
The significant relationships and personal associations we form with the world surrounding us can also exist in the simplest of objects. These flowers, collected from the ground of a local cemetery, only have value when on the final resting site of a loved one. Beforehand, they are cheap, plastic and of little importance; after the wind carries them away from their intended location, they become litter. By documenting them for all time through photography, they inherit a level of subjective impo…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Bending Back
As a child, I spent much of my playtime in the open fields and vast forests near the family farm. Even thought these experiences were shared with my siblings, my memories of the places are intimate and unique to me alone. A friend of mine, growing up in town, used the junkyard as his playground. Although these two environments were significantly different, we form a strong enough connection through sharing our thoughts, that any field, forest or junkyard is a representation of our experiences. T…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Domicile
Submitted 12/28/07: My sister and I have never got along well. Today, we can avoid most situations that might cause conflict but as little girls we were forcibly connected. There's only a few moments I look back on fondly. The greatest of these is also the most simple. I was about four, my sister six and we shared a bedroom. Our house was on the corner and across from a small hospital. Until we silently fell asleep, we would watch the lights from the cars turning in and out of the parking cascad…
  • Su Legatt updated the Artwork Self Liberations
Often, we have secrets that cannot be shared. Whether because of severity or embarrassment, we need to release ourselves from these burdens. This installation is the opportunity for participants to share their secrets without their identities being known. To participate online, email your confession anonymously to [email protected] and it will be posted and shared with all.
