I have a BFA and MFA in Industrial Design and have been designing and building contemporary studio furniture since 2000. My work has been featured in regional furniture exhibitions and has been published in numerous national publications. Awards include the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant and multiple awards at the Northern Woods Exhibition, held each year by the Minnesota Woodworker's Guild.
The focus of my work is to investigate the relationship between utility and aesthetics through the innovative use of design methods, materials, forms, construction techniques, surface treatments, and engineered solutions. I seek to break down boundaries between what is deemed acceptable and indeed beautiful in fine furniture. My work incorporates traditional furniture materials such as wood with industrial materials like stainless steel, aluminum, nylon monofilament, neoprene, hemp and carbon fiber. Presently, I feel I’m at a creative high point in my career with more ideas than I have time or adequate facilities to execute.
