As a new year begins, millions of people will make New Year's resolutions in an attempt to better themselves and their lives. Unfortunately, for many of us, those heart-felt intentions will devolve into well-meaning yet distasteful obligations. Nonetheless, the mnartists.org staff began our efforts at self-improvement early by creating collections on mnartists.org related to our hopes for the coming year. In honor of the new year and the new site design we each started with the themes of newness and resolve.
My collection has two parts. First, I tried to find an intersection of newness and resolve. I came up with the theme of the Virgin Mary. The innocence and conviction connoted in this work reminds me to move through the world with curiosity and deeply held beliefs. I also just love religious iconography. Second, I searched for work and artists added to the site in the last week and chose pieces and artists that offer interesting counterpoints to the set of virgins.
Happy browsing and Happy New Year!
