Curator's Statement

In order to consider fashion photography a contemporary art form, there needs to be an element of inspiration combined with technical skill. All elements must be thoughtfully brought together by a dedicated team, large or small. This has been an exciting series to get underway. We had an excellent selection of submissions for this spring's MNfashion FLASH competition cycle, with varied interpretations of the theme: "The Color Green". The winning images represent the work of many talented individuals collaborating in the art form of fashion photography. I anticipate that this series will continue to be a creative outlet for both professional and amateur photographers, stylists, models and designers in Minnesota, while continuing to elevate the quality and artistry of Fashion Photography in the Midwest. Check out the second MNfashion FLASH call for submissions for the next round in the series. And join us for an industry-focused seminar on creating a professional portfolio on April 19, which will be followed a networking event to connect future collaborators.
-Anna Lee- Series Coordinator, MNfashion FLASH

About the series: mnartists.org is offering four competitive MNfashion FLASH series between January 2008 and January 2009, with winning photographs selected by a panel of esteemed judges who work in the fashion and photography industries.

MNfashion FLASH is coordinated by MNfashion founder Anna Lee (who also serves as the driving force behind the popular annual fashion and music extravaganza, Voltage: Fashion Amplified). The objective of this fashion series is to promote mnartists.org as a viable resource for artists of all genres and to encourage collaboration between and within the local fashion community to foster artistic exploration and growth.

MNfashion FLASH is a partnership between MNfashion and mnartists.org and the series is sponsored by West Photo.

About the series coordinator: When she is not producing Voltage: Fashion Amplified, developing the new organization MNfashion, or working as series coordinator for MNfashion FLASH, Anna Lee enjoys spending her time making hats for Ruby3. A workaholic by nature, she thrives on collaboration with other artists and art forms, feeling that is where new inspiration is born.
