WINNING THE BATTLE AGAINST
OVARIAN CANCER…ONE SONG AT A TIME
Local Twin Cities band
teams up with Ovarian Cancer non-profit
(Minneapolis, MN) Local Twin City musicians, Capital Sons,
are putting a different spin on their Oct. 23rd CD Release Party.
The local boys are teaming up with Charlene’s Light, a local Ovarian Cancer
non-profit. The goal? To promote and celebrate their newly released CD, but to
also raise awareness.
“It’s about giving back, “ said lead singer, Karl
Oberymeyer, “this is a great chance to do something good on both sides. We all
know someone who has been touched by some sort of cancer. Members of our band
have lost close family members to Ovarian Cancer, and we decided we wanted to
help.”
The CD Release party is planned for Friday, October 23rd
at The Fine Line in downtown Minneapolis. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. There’s a blend of rock and roll and
hip hop for a night of great local music.
Capital Sons take the stage at 10:00 p.m.; other bands include New Congress, and Watson. 100% of the proceeds from the
t-shirt sales will go to Charlene’s Light, as well as 10% of the Capital Sons
ticket sales.
Kristine Greer, President of Charlene’s Light, is excited
about the relationship. “It’s a team effort,” she said, “everyone involved
feels very strongly about the project.” Greer knows first-hand how important
awareness can be. Greer is a Ovarian Cancer survivor herself, and she created
her non-profit, Charlene’s Light”, in honor of her close friend who lost the
battle with Ovarian Cancer last year. “Everyone knows about the pink ribbons,
and the walks for breast cancer, which is great,” explains Greer, “however I’ve
noticed there’s not much awareness out there for Ovarian Cancer, and this
disease is devastating. It needs some attention and awareness. And that’s what
we’re trying to do with Capital Sons.”
This is Capital Sons second CD release to date. Dirty
Neon is their first batch of original
material since their self titled 2005 release which garnered local and national
critical appeal, and received a generous amount of airplay on 89.3 The Current
FM. Seamlessly blending their wide variety of musical influences into a high
energy, unique and lyrically poignant mix, Capital Sons always has a sound that
is fresh, yet recognizable. Led by Karl Obermeyer, Capital Sons bring ear-pleasing
melodies and heart-felt lyrics anchored by a rock steady rhythm section. The
band members; Obermeyer on vocals and guitar, Jesse Thomas on drums, Cy Dodson
on guitar and keyboards, Keefe Russell on bass and vocals, have earned a
reputation as a professional and tight band that stands “poised to make their
mark on the Cities and beyond” – Tom Hallett (Pulse Magazine). Word of mouth
has spread, and their graceful, creative songs and energetic live shows
routinely draw loyal fans to venues in and around the Twin Cities.
Charlene’s Light is a nonprofit foundation raising money for
cancer research, support and education. It was created in loving memory of
Charlene Postigo, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in April of 2008.
