What Light: This Weeks Poem
What Light: This Week's Poem: Joyce Sutphen
May 22, 2006
Joyce Sutphen is the eighth poet chosen in this once-a-week yearlong survey of Minnesota’s poets and their work. The series is sponsored by Magers & Quinn Booksellers.
Death Inc.
Without his scythe and crooked knife
he’s simply an ordinary guy.
You see him at the bus stop,
and he’s reading a folded newspaper,
or he’s in the car next to you
on the freeway—first he passes...
What Light: This Weeks Poem
“What Light: This Weeks Poem,” sponsored by Magers and Quinn Booksellers offers a powerful shot of words. Poet and critic Lightsey Darst helps us find the door into the world of Minnesota poetry. Every Monday a new poem is posted on the website along with a profile of the poet. The program seeks to find excellent work and make it known both to the publishing and poetry world and to the general public.
Poet and critic Lightsey Darst is coordinating the program, and jurors will include many notable writers, editors, publishers, and readers. The first series was judged by Wang Ping, Ray Gonzalez, and Cindra Halm.
This collection is the second in the series of winning poets selected byAlex Lemon, Lorena Duarte, and John Colburn.
Readings at Magers and Quinn will present the poets to wider audiences, and we’ll publish a book featuring the 50 poets eventually selected.
