SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED highlighted episodes for January
The standouts this month include a Mornings theme and a trio of pop music cut-ups. As 2009 began, I was also compelled to make a linkable list to not only the 40+ SAR Q&A’s posted in 2008, but also an alphabetized list of every artist we’ve featured on our front page, since 2006. Check it out HERE.
Episode 136 features over a dozen tracks sampling from sources which have something to do with the first few hours of the day. Check it out HERE. Artists such as Lenlow, Negativland and the Evolution Control Committee weigh in on subjects such as toast, doughnuts, even chocolate cake for breakfast. Might be something good to save for tomorrow’s AM commute…
An especially diverse offering can be found in Episode 222, the best part being, in my opinion, a section featuring three tracks by DJ Earworm, Norwegian Recycling and Pop Chop. Each artist approaches the art of manipulating a stack of very recognizable pop songs in very unique ways. Check it out HERE.
Be sure to check out next week’s special episode, as we celebrate our first ten years on the air. The anniversary is officially celebrated on January 27, 2009, but I’ll be uploading the Birthday episode the previous Sunday (1/25) and announcing a special project, in conjunction with our friends here at mnartists.org. Stay tuned!
Thanks for listening,
