I am fascinated with the complexity of the world around us, the depth and layers that we can’t see, but that we somehow know are there. Intuition, our spiritual nature, tells us that our world is mysteriously complicated, and we, as part of it, are wholly and sacredly connected to it and to each other. For me, trees and water are symbols of the interconnectedness of all things. In my tree pieces, I make a point of creating art that commemorates specific urban trees that we have lost to disease or land use. Using layers of acrylic paints, inks, watercolors, painted and found papers, and oil pastels, I try to recreate the complexity of nature and our moments of connection with it and with each other.
