My current work is an attempt to look at what happens when one tries to over control their idea of beauty in relation to absolute ugly. Absolute ugly is defined as something that has not been entirely mastered by pattern. Through this work I seek to challenge the thought process behind beauty and the need to conform to an ideal “pattern” and fight ugly. By creating pieces through materials I find to be beautiful and feminine I recreate them into patterns and control them in the way I have been conditioned to control my own beauty. However, because these patterns are made by the human hand there is a tendency for error, which end up giving flaws to these patterns in their attempt to be something perfectly beautiful. Through this I create a piece that we can then wear to cover up our “pattern” with something that is more closely classified as beautiful or ideal.
