I am a painter and a draftsman. I am drawn to tactility in every form of art and prefer to work with and manipulate materials by hand whenever possible. The physicality of creating dimensional art through combining and layering resources is fundamental to my practice. I am attracted to rhythmic and nonrepresentational compositions. I challenge myself to incorporate abstract elements through arrangements of geometric yet explosive themes.
I respond to the interaction of media during the development of a piece. By embracing the imperfections, experimentation becomes the main goal. I continue to push the boundaries of my personal techniques as I examine the application of materials in ways that are simultaneously informed and investigational. In combination with my prior experiences, these learned methods further the context in which my subject matter can exist.
Themes of abstract expressionism frequent my work. I am inspired by the emotionally charged compositions of J. M. W. Turner and attempt to capture a similar visual experience within my own paintings. Currently, I am experimenting with a variety of media, such as painting in combination with drawing and sculpture. My most recent pieces and installations seek to bring these collage-like paintings into the third dimension, bringing attention to the temporality of the artwork, where it exists beyond the initial space that it inhabits.
