Makayla Ferraro is a classically trained young viola player. She will graduate from Augsburg College in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Makayla has been playing viola since 2006 and has been studying privately since 2010. Her current instructor is Mary Budd Horozaniecki.
Makayla has played in chamber ensembles, the pit orchestra for the show “Carousel” and in the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra. She also has explored a variety of other music classes in her degree to better round out her degree program including conducting and composition courses.
Makayla was a counselor at Upper Midwest String Camp in 2015 at The College of St. Benedict where she attended pedagogy classes and applied her knowledge teaching chamber music side by side with Emily Haegen and Dr. Sarah Hersch. At UMSC she had the opportunity to play viola with Dr. David Arnott and work with Karen Moon who eventually lead her to connections with MacPhail Centers for Music in Minneapolis.
In January of 2016 Makayla was awarded an internship under Katie Condon at MacPhail Centers for Music. She spends her days assisting and teaching young string players at Best Academy, one of the schools under the umbrella of Harvest Educators located in North Minneapolis.
