Alexis Taylor Weber
Printmaker and book artist currently based in Minneapolis, MN.
I am a printmaker who explores a range of print and book techniques to create work that is related to ideas around place. I look at place as a physical space, but also as an internal space, working with ideas that focus on memory and relationships, and how they can construct a place someone would call home.
Memories and experiences are nostalgic and transient within themselves, and I strive to evoke these feelings within my work. My work explores transparency, light, and color to do so. Recently, the integration of text based imagery has been crucial to my making process. The addition of my writing has allowed me to further push the ideas of nostalgia, ephemerality, and intimacy, both visually and conceptually.
I use a variety of printmaking techniques, which are often displayed as a book structure. This can be displayed through a traditional book structure, or can be more experimental. I am interested in the relationship between book and installation, and how this can push the boundaries of what is considered a book. Through this exploration, I’m interested in pushing my materials to see how a physical space can be transformed into a large format book.
