  • Over my decades of doing canoe trips in the Boundary Waters and Quetico, I have frequently had interactions with Canada Gray Jays on our campsites. They can even be enticed to feed from your hand at times. A bird with many names, it is also called "Whiskey Jack" or "Camp Robber". For this drawing I preferred to call this enterprising fellow "The Opportunist", as he helps himself from an open bag of gorp. I love the canoe country and it's inhabitants, and wanted to show one of my favorites in thi…

  • I don't normally do portrait art, but felt lead to do this one. As a history buff, particularly interested in the Civil War period, Abraham Lincoln represents to me a heroic president dedicated above all else to unifying his country. What a contrast to politicians of our time! This drawing was meant to celebrate what Mr. Lincoln looked like in early 1865, shortly before the end of the great conflict and his great life.
  • Randy Roff updated the Artwork Birkie
Drawing done for Al Ringer, Brimson, MN as a gift for his daughter
  • Randy Roff updated the Artwork Safe Haven
A family of raccoons finds a home in the large hollowed out cavity of a huge Sugar maple. For them this is a safe haven from the dangers of the world. This drawing was done for a fund raising event for a women and children shelter from domestic abuse, here in Duluth, known as Safe Haven. Permission to use this given by its owner, Tammy Gatlin.
  • A portrait of his parents, done for Bob DeRoche.
  •  I saw a photo of this aging couple in a magazine years ago, and fell in love with their faces. I knew I needed to draw them someday. To me they represent life long commitment to each other, joy in each other and their life of hard work together. I don't know that they are a Minnesota farm couple, but to me they seemed to be so, and they definitely are "life partners".
