Having grown up in the Midwest of America, I have a deeply rooted respect for Midwestern values of goodness and honesty. My international travel around 18 different countries has shown me how closely Minnesota and Wisconsin are intertwined in my identity. The plein air works I am doing right now allow me to study and observe the midwestern world around me to better understand the identity inside of me.

It is the space in between freedom and discipline I find my work and my self. I paint abstract landscapes because I see myself in it. The mix of real perspective and abstraction resonates with me. Within this abstraction still is inherent the generosity of the earth. I revere that which holds everything, and I envy the generosity of how it is given. This is the tie between my paintings. They grasp for whatever is honest, sound, and generous.
