Jessica Slagle is originally from a teeny-tiny town in middle of nowhere Minnesota. She graduated from the accredited College of Visual Arts in 2011 with a BFA in illustration. She spent the first six years of her professional career in New York City working as a graphic artist in the apparel industry. She currently lives and works in St Paul, Minnesota.
My work is a visual translation; a carefully crafted presence affected by sympathetic vibrations to react positively with the viewer’s light and body. These presentations benefit others through healing. I count Hilma af Klint and Kandinsky among my influences, and my own artistic expression is derivative of this relationship; and is crafted from both traditional and spiritual media.
Collage is my medium of choice, as I found my trials with painting and drawing couldn’t capture the full bandwidth of my vision. By assembling the raw elements from pieces of the world around me, I can properly and effectively transmit my own perspective in a way that’s native to the viewer. The style also functions well with the underlying process and concept behind my work; building on expanded consciousness, exposing and fostering (occasionally unrelated) dimensional vibrations, and layering together healing energies.
Patrons and critics find my world bold, beautiful, and haunting. I wish to capture the viewer’s imagination by ferrying them on their journey through the astral. Mapping the cosmos, I capture the power and chaos of the universe.
