I am a watercolor artist. I have been painting for about 10 years and have worked in photography most of my adult life. During a 20 year residence in Provence, France, I became very inspired with the beauty of the world and began painting. I know that it was the light in the South of France that must have touched me, the same light that attracted Van Gogh, Cezanne and many others. I am lucky to have had that light shine on me!
I grew up in a small town in northern Minnesota, studied French in college and then lived in France, where I taught in a culinary school. I have also been a muscian since the age of 7. Beginning in my 20's, I have played lots of folk, traditional, and Bluegrass music, much of it on the stage. Painting came later.
I have been painting for 10 years. Before that I spent many years taking photgraphs, so I was somewhat in the know about composition when I first grabbed onto a paintbrush. In the past ten years, I have worked hard teaching myself to draw, in addition to learning to work with watercolor paint and its elusive relationship with water and the paper . This has been a wonderful and intense journey so far!
My work has won a number of awards and recognition in statewide and national shows. I sell my paintings and prints at art exhibits and sales, also ship my work to out of town buyers. I have a permanent exhibition/sale at Ingredients Café in White Bear Lake, MN. Some of the finest international artists in watercolor have helped me on my way, and I am very grateful to them, especially Alvaro Castagnet, Janet Rogers, and Andy Evansen.
