I am a quiet observer of life and the world around me. My writing and radio productions are inspired by wild places, wild things, and water. My evolution as a radio producer, writer, and story teller is toward creating interesting, sound-rich radio pieces and vivid written works regardless of the topic or genre.
I have traveled extensively by canoe across the Arctic and across Minnesota. My work is filtered through the eyes of a traveler and through decades on the water. I have been on over 20 expeditions, accounting for several years of my life and covering more than five thousand miles on the water.
I've been producing a semi-regular segment called “Paddle Minnesota” for Northern Community Radio (kaxe.org) since about 2013. I work as an independent producer. I focus on canoe/paddle culture in Minnesota. Travel on water is regarded as a normal thing to do in Minnesota. Canoes are part of who we are and there are some good stories here too.
I produce sound-rich audio essays based on my experiences and travels in wild places. I draw from my journals kept on Arctic and African excursions and recordings I gather along the way. I look for interesting people as I travel and look for ways to tell their stories with voice and sound.
Writing and Photography
Many of my radio essays start with a written work. Some of these written works have appeared in print in Canoeing.com, Up Here magazine, and Above and Beyond magazine. My written works are accompanied by photos I have taken during trips or experiences.
