  • Richard Green updated the Artwork Ungawa
"Ungawa" ~ a word that was heard much in the '60s and '70s, mostly by African Americans who supported The Civil Rights Movement which was raging during that time. The so called Power Salute is evident in the upper left, and doubled as part of a flower. Yes, Flower Power was also heard chanted at that time...so duality reigns supreme in this watercolor! The word has various meanings, usually JOINED or UNITED. RCG
  • Dick updated the Artwork Rocinante
The subject, although clothed in abstraction, is the skinny and clumsy steed ~ or nag ~ of Don Quixote..".El Caballero de la Triste Figura."

  • Dick updated the Artwork Indie Limo Mexico City
Walking with my Brother-In-Law, I came upon this car which seem to be completely protected by this very large tree. To me, being in a very different world from which I was accustomed, the image took on a very surreal quality.
  • Dick updated the Artwork Flitter
While recovering from radiation treatments, I found myself anemic and more tired than usual, sooooo, I fashioned a wooden platform feeder for the birds, and located it  between the edge of the woods and our balcony. With primarily a 300mm lens, I shot birds and found myself invigorated and relieved from the rigors of watercolor painting..which can be draining. Anyway, this is simply how I interpreted the comings and goings of a host of species of birds as they flittered around, looking for a bi…
  • Dick updated the Artwork Tunnel Vision
I have little to say about this work. I do struggle with pure abstraction, but in this case, I saw a horse's head emerge. I consider myself, for the most part, an intuitive artist: I don't plan well, and the painting has a tendency to DO ITSELF. And, finding an opportunity to drill a tunnel right thru the horse's head, a title was born.
  • Dick updated the Artwork Hang It All
I usually laugh to myself when I see this piece. I am not a gloomy, macabre person....so I do these because 1) I can and 2) I find this type of visual fits right in to our modern world. The background is a shot of the frozen Purgatory Creek and the skeleton I shot from a marvelous collection in The Burke Museum of Natural History which we visited in 2012...on the campus of the U of Washington, in Seattle. The hanger on the top was created in Photoshop, where everything was layers together and bl…
  • Dick updated the Artwork Strange Days Have Found Us
One of my early examples of paintings which depict what the effects of Global Climate Change may look like. Mostly fantasy of course...but on the other hand....
  • Dick updated the Artwork Playing it Safe
This watercolor did itself gradually over a period of at least a week. Again, as a piece develops, it will eventually lead me to a final solution. There is no grand message,...just silliness and fantasy, perhaps surreal imagery. RCG
  • Dick updated the Artwork Playa Cara y Calavera
A very surrealistic and fanciful beach which seems to try to conceal partially hidden faces (caras, Spanish) and skulls (calaveras). I enjoy using Spanish titles from times to time. I'm married to a Mexican and converse with her in Spanish. Many of my relatives are from South of the Border.
