Being a full-time working artist has been a lifelong goal and dream of local artist Tom Rieschick. Born and bred in New York and Washington D.C., his ambition was not realized until he moved to rural Minnesota.
For him, the peace, quiet, expansive space and “long winters” have allowed Tom the opportunities he was unable to find out east. And even with these advantages, his journey was only made possible with the financial and moral support of his wife, Michele. She has literally saved paintings!
Tom discovered that his passion lies in portraiture. For him, the great challenge in portraiture is achieving the individual’s physical likeness.through the delicate balance of realism and expressiveness.
He says, “Portraiture embodies the unique quality of telling two stories; the artist’s story, as well the model’s story. Each individual is a living account of all he has experienced. Every expression, every line and every posture combines to deliver an explanation of the sitter’s past, as well as his response to the moment. This is what I want to capture in my art”.
He utilizes three extremely different styles and mediums to express my vision of each individual’s body and soul; Oil painting, Pen and Ink and Pencil.
