I am a filmmaker at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design who specializes in screenwriting and editing. I like creating stories that range from a group of kids spending a night trying to have a good time, to crime dramas and thrillers. For my work, I tend to focus on a small group of characters and just diving deep into every characters mind. It is very important to me to make every character as rounded and as real as possible. The process behind character studies has always fascinated me. Being able to explore how each character interacts within their environment and how they react with every other character. I take heavy inspiration from writers and directors such as Richard Linklater, Martin Scorcese, and Vince Gilligan. For my work I usually like to draw from real life experiences, whether that be a whole scene taken from my life or just a couple of lines to really give a character that feeling of realism. One of my pieces called Young Americans is sort of a modern day dazed and confused, by Richard Linklater. It centers around three baseball playing high schoolers as they try to figure out the best way to spend their Friday evening. They go to a party, play some baseball, and stay up late at night talking about their dreams and ambitions. I tried to really capture what it’s like to be young, in high school, not knowing where life is taking you, just taking everything one step at a time. It is a very complicated time in a person's life, on the verge of being an adult, so being able to dive into those moments of self reflection is what’s most important for me in a project.
