Bill's Ghost

This piece was inspired by a drawing I did at the exhibit "Ghostcatching" at Cooper Union in New York City. The piece was a collaboration between dancer/choreographer Bill T. Jones and a computer animation company called Riverbed. Riverbed placed reflective balls on Bill's entire body and then captured his movement on several cameras set up in a studio. The result was a 3-D animation of Bill's body, reduced to what looked like drawn lines, moving through space. It was beautiful. It challenged me to see what a human (me) could do in trying to capture movement on a two-dimensional surface.
It is a performed dialogue that I have with an animation piece I created. The performance can be seen on my website.
The entire piece was danced to the music of Joan Baez. Her work was truly inspirational--drawing her movements was one of those rare experiences where I really felt like I was dancing with her.
