Directed by Wendy Knox Written by Judith Thompson Set Design by John Bueche Lighting Design by Mike Kittel Costume Design by Kathy Kohl Sound Design by Michael Croswell Featuring Emily Zimmer, Patrick Bailey and Taous Claire Khazem PALACE OF THE END is composed of three monologues, all based on factual people and events, whose characters and words are imagined by the playwright. The first of these monologues is titled MY PYRAMIDS, inspired by the media circus around Lynndie England, the Army private who was convicted of torturing Iraqi prisoners. HARROWDOWN HILL, the second piece, was inspired by the well-publicized events surrounding the death of the British weapons inspector David Kelley, a microbiologist. INSTRUMENTS OF YEARNING was inspired by the true story of Nehrjas al Saffarh, a well-known member of the Communist Party of Iraq and mother of four. She was tortured by Saddam Hussein's secret police in the 1970s. She died when her home was bombed by the Americans in the first Gulf War.

The Kabyle Folktale Project

The Kabyle Folktale Project will be housed in the Théâtre Régionale de Béjaia during the summer months of 2008. Taous will work with a group of young women to create an original play based on Kabyle folktales.

Border Crossing

Border Crossing is a story of a resilient little girl who is abandoned by human traffickers -coyotes- who makes her way acrossthe Arizona/Mexico border, told through the voices of the desert itself. To tell this story, Off-LeashArea focuses on the heightened spirituality of the Sonoran Desert to highlight this human drama, while embracing the complexity of the current political debate. The award-winning company uses itssingular hybrid approach of fusing movement and interactive scenic elements to tell the story in auniquely visual way, incorporating dance influenced by prayer and ritual and puppetry constructedfrom the flotsam left behind by desperate peoples forced to search for a better life. Along with text written by Anishinaabe playwright Marcie Rendon and music composed by Ben Siems, Border Crossing is informed by stories from small-town Mexican citizens, Tucson snowbirds, Latino Border Patrolmen, and Native social workers told firsthand to the artistic team while they were researching along the border last fall, thanks to a Minnesota State Arts Board Artists' Initiative Grant.
