Sock Monkey Chair

I made this chair to blow the minds of the judges at the Minnesota State Fair. Mission accomplished - minds were blown. So much so that I was banned from participating in the Creative Activities Competition. The chair itself is a vintage piece which I purchased on the famed 100 mile garage sale, completely gutted and re-constructed, inside and out. I knit all the fabric for the chair. Let the monkey envelope you in his comfy, springy, bounciness, complete with a 36” tail.

The dimensions of the beloved sock monkey chair are:

This piece, from 2002, marked the beginning of my sock monkey apparel creations. This particular piece is handwoven on a 4 harness floor loom of cotton and wool. The actual weave is intented to simulate the look of the traditional sock monkey brown tweed. The inspiration for the dress comes from the conjoined monkeys worn on the back.

Constructed entirely out of rubber gloves - do you have any idea how difficult it was to find the pink gloves?? I had friends all over the country looking out for me! Today, this dress sits quietly rotting in a corner. A tear forms in my eye whenver I think about it - I just can't bear the thought of throwing it away....
