From a short-lived conversion to Catholicism in first grade to high school life stuck at the "Math Boys" lunch table to a meditation on the sacred intersection of Guilt and Food, Amy shares her personal highlights of Jewish dorkiness. "Salloway is smart, funny, fearlessly candid, and generously endowed with talent" - The Georgia Straight. "Endlessly clever and accessible" - Cincinnati CityBeat. "...disarmingly intimate; a comic tour-de-force." - The Ottawa Citizen.
Upcoming Performances:
Guess what?
Some Stuff About Me.

Amy Salloway has been called "hilariously self-loathing", "gifted at creating comedy from pain and embarrassment", and "the queen of self-deprecation", and she takes all of that as a compliment. Amy grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduated Summa cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa in Theatre and Sociology from the University of Minnesota, and has lived most of her adult years in Seattle and Minneapolis. In August of 2003, after developing spoken word pieces and monologues at Minneapolis performance venues like Patrick's Cabaret, Balls and HotBed, Amy created her first solo show, "Does This Monologue Make Me Look Fat?", which debuted in the Minnesota Fringe Theatre Festival and made Lavender Magazine's annual 'Best of' list for "Best Solo Performance". Since then, she's written two more shows - 2005's "So Kiss Me Already, Herschel Gertz!", and "Circumference"in 2006/2007 - and now all three pieces tour to Fringes, solo festivals, theatres, performance events and booked gigs in the US, Canada and beyond. Their cumulative stops have included the UNO Festival in Victoria, BC; Oh Solo Mio in London, ON; Cape May Stage's Flying Solo Series; Open Stage Theatre in Harrisburg, PA; StageNorth Theatre in Washburn, WI; Six Figure Theatre's Artists of Tomorrow series in NYC; the Manhattan JCC; Fresno's Rogue Festival; the Her-icane Festival of Women's Theatre in Saskatoon; the Baltimore Creative Alliance; the Columbus GLBT Theatre Festival (where Amy won "Best Script" and "Best Solo Show"); the International TeatroNetto Festival of Solo Performance in Jaffa, Israel; the Actor's Theatre of Minnesota, and the Fringes in Thunder Bay, Halifax (Best of Venue), Ottawa ("Must-See Show"), Orlando ("Must-See Show"), Cincinnati (Critic's Pick), Calgary ("Top 5 Shows To See"), Victoria, Vancouver (Pick of the Fringe), the Berkshires, and Winnipeg (Best of Fest 2006 and 2008). Amy is currently working on a new solo production, "My Sister Used To Be Anne Frank", about sibling rivalry, which will debut sometime in 2009.
Amy's performed her work on MPR's "In the Loop" and CBC's "Definitely Not The Opera", and as part of the new Twin Cities monologue collective Rockstar Storytellers. She's also been a substitute theatre instructor and playwright for Interact Center for the Arts - a theatre company for artists with disabilities -- where she served as lead writer for two company-developed musicals: "Future Perfect", and "The Broken Brain Summit", which won a 2008 Ivey Award for Originality. She was awarded a VSA Artist Recognition Grant in 2007.

Amy's shows can be booked by contacting Stephanie Schroeder at Pushy Broads Consulting:
http://www.pushybroadsconsulting.com/

stephanie@pushybroadsconsulting.com

718-902-8467
or through Amy herself: amysalloway@mindspring.com
612-298-5772

OH! Her uterus is rebelling, her perfect sister is destined for stardom, her boyfriend won't give her a kidney, and the body-image workshop she signs up for becomes a surreal lesbian adventure. Will this be another night spent wandering the frozen foods aisle? Or somehow, can a single, spherical girl figure out where she fits? In this first solo show from actor/writer Amy Salloway, seven "mostly true" stories meld into an unflinching portrait of the search for love, affirmation and acceptance...and what happens while they're all taking a REALLY long time to show up. "Best solo performance of 2003" says Lavender Magazine. "A MUST SEE", say the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Cincinnati Enquirer.. And from the Ottawa Citizen, "Appealing and marvelously funny...you can also add brave and original." UPCOMING PERFORMANCES of "Does This Monologue Make Me Look Fat?":None right now, but check back later!--------------------"Does This Monologue Make Me Look Fat?" debuted in the Minnesota Fringe Festival in the summer of 2003, and has gone on to be performed in and at...* Bedlam Studio's 2003 Best of the Fest, Minneapolis, MN* The 2004 UNO Festival of Solo Theatre, Victoria, BC* The 2004 Thunder Bay Fringe Festival, Thunder Bay, ON* The 2004 Minnesota Fringe Festival, Minneapolis, MN* The 2004 Atlantic Fringe, Halifax, NS* The 2004 Vancouver Fringe, Vancouver, BC* The 2004 Artists of Tomorrow Festival, NYC, New York* Breathe In, Sing Out Benefit, Minneapolis* The 2005 Cape May Stage Flying Solo Festival, Cape May, NJ* The 2005 Cincinnati Fringe Festival, Cincinnati, OH* The 2005 Berkshire Fringe, Great Barrington, MA* The 2006 WomenSpeak Series, OpenStage of Harrisburg, Harrisburg, PA* The 2006 Columbus National GLBT Theatre Festival, Columbus, OH* Rainbow Resources, Winnipeg, MB* The 2007 Ottawa Fringe Festival, ON

image: DTMMMLF? image, brown background

image: DTMMMLF?
Teaching and Workshops

In addition to touring solo shows, I often offer workshops, classes and residencies, which can be booked together with a show, or as a stand-alone event. Potential workshop topics include:•	Writing for your own voice•	Beginning memoir•	Monologue and storytelling basics•	Turning personal story into solo performance•	The Matt Smith Check-In Workshop (a 3-6 hour series of group and solo improv exercises designed to generate original performance material by discovering the emotional themes, links and currents in your daily life)•	Improvisation – long or short form, basic to advanced•	Scene study•	Monologue coaching•	Augusto Boal Theatre of The Oppressed exercises. In October of 2006 I taught a half-day Theatre of the Oppressed workshop to Environmental Science educators in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This workshop was designed to give teachers ways to incorporate theatre games and activities in their classroom curricula. It was absolutely tons of fun, and was, for me, an opportunity to rediscover how much I LOVE Boal work. I would embrace any opportunities to teach and lead Theatre of the Oppressed workshops in Minneapolis or elsewhere -- ToTO is one of the richest, most connective, most unintimidating ways I can think of to get theatre people and non-theatre people alike working together, thinking creatively, and using all parts of their brains to invent, create, explore and problem-solve.

application: FringeTourWorkshop2007
The Advice People sit in pairs of two, and will listen to your question and give you their best advice -- since there's two of them, their opinions may or may not match! You pay a nickel, or whatever you think that advisement was worth. The Advice People have advised at Pride, May Day, the Powderhorn and Loring Park art fairs, the Fringe Festival, Dunn Brothers Cafes, and many other events. We've addressed everything from 'What city should I move to next?" to "I'm not sure if it's too soon or not to invite a third person into my primary relationship" to "My cat has dry skin". We're way cheaper than therapy, and available for parties! :-) Look for The Advice People at May Day in Powderhorn Park, Sunday May 3rd,2009, starting about 12:30 pm!!

image: The Advice People, May Day, 2002(?)

image: The Advice People, May Day 2009

image: Amy and Kai advising, May Day 2009

image: Amy and Lynnette advising, May Day 2009
