Norsk Nordland "bunad" for 12" doll

Handmade doll dressed in Traditional Norwegian "Nordland Bunad," the national folk dress worn at festivals and holidays such as Syttende Mai (the Norsk Independence Day.) All work is handmade, including the embroidery and stitchery, the handmade shoes, and underclothing, the traditional bunad purse and apron. I create all my own patterns for my doll clothing.

Handmade doll dressed in Traditional Swedish "Folkdrakt," the national folk dress worn at festivals and holidays such as May Day. This dress and cap would be worn by an adult woman (per the design of the cap.) All work is handmade, including the embroidery, the soft, jointed doll body and skeletal structure, the sculpted face, hands and feet, the handmade shoes, and underclothing.

Various Scandinavian holiday ornaments, handpainted on glass balls using acrylics. All designs are traditional to Scandinavia. During the winter of 2011 I began painting traditional Sami designs, representing the woven belts/bands found on the equipment and clothing of the Sami people in Sapmi (the land commonly referred to as Lappland), and symbols of characters and animals from Sami mythology and life.

During the winter of 2011, I began creating Sami Christmas ornaments, to add to my repetoire of handpainting Scandinavian holiday ornaments and gifts. The Sami folk are indigenous to the far northern regions of Scandinavia (land commonly called Lappland.) My Sami art "decorated" ornaments have bands around them following the traditional weaving belt/band patterns common on the equipment and clothing of the Sami people, and "character" symbols representing the mythology and creatures of the Sami. Some have "Buorrit Juovllat" (Merry Christmas) written on them, while others have"Memories of the Sami folk" written on them in the Northern Sami language.

Swedish "Dalamalning" Flour Scoop

Traditional Swedish kitchen flour scoop, painted in the Rattvik style of dalamalning (rose-painting), using 3 colors of acrylic paint simultaneously (on basswood), to create floral and "kurbit" designs. This scoop harkens back to the 17-18th century Dalarna region of Sweden, when itinerent disabled folk artists traveled from one farmstead to another, hiring out their skills to decorate the walls, furniture and personal items of the Dalarna folk. The Dalarna region of Sweden (north and west of Stockholm) is still the center of Swedish folk arts today.
