Grommet bracelet

Made as a challenge to bead something unusual, these rubber grommets from a drawer in a hardware store were perfect for adding beads. Colors are inspired by Paul Klee. This was published as a project article in June/July 2006 Beadwork.

Gift from the sea

The title is inspired by the book of the same title by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Mixed in with shells from Kauai and Florida is a piece of beaded pen shell, a sea urchin, and two starfish. The starfish are available as a kit from Buy The Kit.

If Ancient Romans used beads

Inspired by the milky white French bead used, this 6" figure is self-supporting peyote. This was juried into the Beaded Figure show, touring the United States in 2005.

Fred the cockroach

Made as a silly gift for a friend, Fred is based on pictures found on the internet. He is made with peyote and brick stitch. Fred was in "Bead a Bug" in the June/July 2006 Beadwork.

State Fair Food : Giant pickle on a stick

I took a picture of a pickle on a stick from the 2004 Minnesota State Fair, and saved the stick. Before the next State Fair, I wrapped green stretch velour over the stick and stitched it down for a form, and used right angle weave to cover it. This won a ribbon in the 2005 State Fair.

Painted Vessel

This 5" tall vessel is made of brick stitch over a form, removed after completion. Beads used are Czech, Italian, Japanese, and French. The shape is inspired by amphoras at the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, and the colors by a painting at the Walker Art Center.
